Offense lights up against Vikings

Offense lights up against Vikings

The bats came alive for the Cyclones in their first spring training game with Mercer County Community College (New Jersey).

Although Moraine Valley lost the effort 14-7, they were able to put some solid hits in play. There was just one rough inning, where the Vikings scored 11 runs, that made the score uneven.

In the bottom of the first and down 1-0, the Cyclones scored with two outs. Emma Hansen bunted to get on and reached third on a fielding error. Mya Granados singled to center field to score the first run. It was the second inning where too many walks and big hits put the Cyclones in the hole 12-1. The next inning saw Moraine Valley add two more runs with a single from Brialynn Mica, who was driven home on a triple from Hansen. Jolene Anderson scored Mica on a sac fly to make it 12-3.

The Cyclones added the rest of their runs in the fifth inning on some solid hits and walks. Mica was the first batter up and reached first on a fielding error. Hansen then singled before Anderson rocked a double to right field to score one. A dropped third strike from a wild pitch helped load the bases for Cassidy Ostema who singled in another run. With two outs, the Vikings threw a wild pitch, allowing Anderson to score. Riley Evoy was walked to load the bases as was Rachel Minnich, giving the Cyclones seven runs. Granados doubled in the sixth inning, but the Cyclone offense slowed down after that.
