Big win to end season

Big win to end season

The Cyclones ended their season with a key 6-3 win on over Elgin Community College in a game that had to be replayed from April 23.

The last time these two teams met two weeks ago, the Cyclones lost the first game. They weren't ready to give up a second one. Sophomore Abbie Wantroba made a statement in her last game as a Cyclone, crushing a three-run home run in the first inning on the first pitch of her at-bat. Elgin scored two in the third and one more in the sixth before the Cyclones countered. The score was tied at three in the bottom of the sixth when Brianna Dvorak hit into a fielder's choice. However, the Spartans had an overthrow which scored two runs and gave the Cyclones the lead. Emily Gorski then hit a rocket to score Dvorak.

Overall the Cyclones collected nine hits to the Spartans' 12. Fran Beggs, Alexandria Palumbo and Danielle Travis each had two. On the mound, Ashley Roberts won the game, allowing 11 hits without walking anyone.
