Wind no help for the Cyclones

Wind no help for the Cyclones

High winds played a big role in the Cyclones matchup with Joliet Junior College. Once someone hit a routine fly ball into centerfield, it was carried over the fence for a homerun. The Cyclones had a few of their own, including two from Danielle Travis, but came up just short against the Wolves.

The powerhouses at Moraine Valley out hit the Wolves 11-10 in the first game with multiple knocks from Kara Riordan (4-for-4, RBI), Claire Minnich (2-for-4) and Fran Beggs (3-for-4). The Cyclones tied it up in the top of the fifth at four when Travis hit a two-run homerun. Riordan batted in a third run that inning. But all those hits weren't enough as the Wolves fought back, and the Cyclones fell 8-5. Ashley Roberts threw six innings, allowing eight runs on 10 hits while striking out one.

Game two saw more of the same, including another three-run long ball by Travis to put her team up by one in the third inning. Brianna Dvorak (2-for-3) had a homerun in the first inning to get her team on the board, but the Wolves answered with two runs of their own. Both teams battled back with runs nearly every inning with the Cyclones scattering nine hits overall. Emily Gorski (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) was on the mound this game, giving up 11 runs and 13 hits over five innings while striking out one in the 11-8 loss.
