Palumbo HR helps elevate Cyclones past Pioneers

What was supposed to be a doubleheader turned out to be a single game and ultimate victory for the Cyclones over Prairie State College.

The Cyclones had an undefeated Skyway Conference streak to continue, and it wasn't easy. The Pioneers scored three in the second and two more in the third before the Cyclones got on the board. And they did so with three straight innings getting four runners across the plate each time. The teams were tied at eight in the bottom of the fifth when Alexandria Palumbo (2-for-3) rocked a two-run homerun over the fence to retake the lead for good. The Cyclones scored two more while the Pioneers could only muster one more run in the seventh, giving Moraine Valley the 12-9 win.

Big hits came from Kara Riordan (3-for-5, 2 RBIs, 2B, 3B), Danielle Travis (4-for-4, three 1B, 2B, 3 RBIs), Emily Gorski (3B, 2 RBIs), Abbie Wantroba (2 RBIs) and Fran Beggs (RBI). Because the Pioneers only had nine players and one suffered an injury in this game, they were unable to complete the doubleheader.
