Cyclones score 16 for the day

The Cyclones continued their winning streak at spring training today with two more massive victories.

First was a 9-0 shutout of Pennsylvania State University Beaver. Karly Krown took the mound and tossed a five-inning gem. She only allowed one hit with no walks and struck out four. The bats were explosive again this game led by Jessica Coyle (3-for-3, 2 runs). Lex Leighton (2 stolen bases), Fran Beggs (2 RBIs) and Abbie Wantroba each added two hits, and Marissa Faletti (stolen base) notched one in the team's 10-hit onslaught. Wantroba drove in another 3 RBIs while Brianna Dvorak drove in two more runs. With defense on point again, Madi Davis flexed her catching might by throwing out another batter.

The Cyclones later muscled out University of South Carolina- Sumter 7-1. Liz McCuan led the charge on the mound to limit this Division 1 college to six hits and one unearned run. Leighton continued her torrid hitting with three more hits, including her second triple in the first inning. She got her team on the board first, scoring on a passed ball. All winter the Cyclones practiced two out, two strike bunts, which paid off in the second inning with Zoe Supanich on base before Morgan Moran bunted her to third causing the Fire Ants to make a throwing error and allow a run to score. Leighton and Donna Booe (3-for-4, RBI) opened the third inning with singles and pulled off the fourth double steal of the season for the Cyclones. That pressure on the defense paid off as Beggs (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) followed with a line drive single to score both. Darcee Nichols ripped an RBI single to center to score Beggs. The Cyclones tacked on two more runs to cap the scoring in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI single from Dvorak and Wantroba's seventh RBI of the tournament on a double. The defense held off the strong hitting Fire Ants while Davis picked off yet another runner at third.
