This wasn't how the Cyclones wanted to end the season, but it did in an 81-78 loss to Milwaukee Area Technical College in the NJCAA Region 4 Division II District B playoffs.
The last time these two teams met nearly two weeks ago, the Cyclones dominated the Stormers (103-88). But anything can happen during the playoffs. Coming into this game, the No. 7 seeded Cyclones (15-15) were confident they could continue to dominate the No. 10 seeded Stormers (12-17). However, right from the start the Cyclone offense was slow as Milwaukee took the lead. The only time Moraine Valley went ahead was nearly seven minutes into the game after a layup from Grantas Sakenis. The Stormers continued to go on scoring runs, leaving the Cyclones down 44-29 at halftime.
The second half saw the Cyclones slowly chip away at the deficit with a number of big drives from Deven Jiles while the Stormers continued scoring on their push to the basket. Several key free throws made the difference in the end, however, as the Cyclones came within one point at the 1:26-minute mark. Moraine Valley shot 8-for-15 from the line compared to 10-for-13 from the Stormers. An attempt by Moraine Valley to score and earn a foul in the final seconds went the Stormers' way as they instead got two more free throws to end the Cyclones' season.
Jiles led the offense with 24 points and added 10 rebounds. Juvon Crawford added 16 points and 11 assists. TJ Lee collected 15 points while Jelani McGregor had 11. Amarion Johnson scored 10 points along with grabbing 10 rebounds and five blocks, earning a Moraine Valley career block record (187).
