Skyway Champs!

Skyway Champs!

Of all the teams in the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference, the Cyclones (23-5) had to worry the most about Prairie State College (19-8), as both teams were contending for the conference championship. Moraine Valley played their best game of the year and earned the coveted crown after the 95-75 win.

The last time these two teams met, the Cyclones trailed the entire game and lost at home. This was their only conference loss of the season. If any team was threatening a championship, it was the Pioneers. If the Cyclones lost and the Pioneers won their final game on Saturday, it would have been a co-championship. But the Cyclones dominated all night.

The Pioneers led a strong attack, but the Cyclones were stronger. With leading scorer Kobe Adams back in the lineup, they had the offensive advantage, going up 47-31 at halftime. Even though the Pioneers clawed back and scored more in the second half, the Cyclones continued to push the game and score consistently for the big victory.

Adams led the offense with 20 points while Enari Thomas added 18. Anthony Taylor (16 points, 10 rebounds) and Trace Williams (12 rebounds, 10 points) each had a double-double. Javonte McKenzie contributed 12 points, four steals and three blocks.

The last time the Cyclones won the championship was in 2019-20. They start region playoffs on Thursday, March 2.
