Cyclones fall short in second half of semis

Cyclones fall short in second half of semis

After soundly defeating Kishwaukee College in the quarterfinals, the No. 1 seeded Cyclones (19-9) were ready to continue their run in the semifinals with No. 4 seed Black Hawk College (16-8). Despite a strong push and fight in this game, a slow fade in the second half ended the Cyclones' season.

The Cyclones knew they'd be up against a physical Braves squad, which they saw from the start. It took a couple minutes before the Cyclones could get on the board thanks to two free throws from Kobe Adams, making it a 7-2 game. Trace Williams then scored on a rebound from a missed Braves' shot and again moments later to get his team within one. However, the Braves pulled away and it wasn't until nearly halfway through the first half before the Cyclones caught up on a steady stream of passes, scoring and forced errors on the Black Hawk. With the added pressure, Adams finally tied the score at 31 after scrounging under the basket. For the next four minutes, each team took a turn leading and tying the game. At the buzzer, the Braves committed a technical foul but tied things at 37.

Moments into the second half, Adams scored the first three of the game for his team. Combined with a few missed shots by the Braves, the Cyclones lifted themselves by seven points off of shots from Adams and Williams. It was short-lived as the Braves eventually went on an 11-0 run to retake the lead. The Cyclones came within one after a bucket from Anthony Taylor, but the Braves steadily increased the lead. In the last minute of the game, the Cyclones fouled the Braves four times and rarely missed a shot.

Isiah Burd led the offense with 23 points followed by Adams with 18. Williams and Taylor each with 14.
