Cyclones thwart Scots

The battle between the Cyclones and the McHenry County Scots on wasn't going to be pretty. The Scots needed this win, but the Cyclones had other ideas in mind.

For the Scots, this game determined their fate to stay atop the Skyway Conference, and for the Cyclones, it was redemption. McHenry was in a three-way tie for first place, which the Cyclones squashed with their solid defensive effort. It was a much-needed road win against a tough team, and the Cyclones wanted to avenge their 10-point loss from their last matchup Jan. 20.

Early in the game, the Cyclones were down 14-5 before switching defenses to take a 16-14 lead. From that point, they maintained better ball control. At halftime, the Cyclones held a narrow 39-33 lead. In the second half, possession went back-and-forth as the two teams battled. But a key defensive stop and layup from Trace Williams with a minute to go up two helped his teams' momentum. The Cyclones held on with defensive stops and scored enough to hold onto the 82-75 victory.

As he has most of the season, Kobe Adams led the offense with 25 points. Anthony Taylor added another double-double (22 points, 17 rebounds) and three steals while Trace Williams scored 18 and led with six assists.
