Winning with a vengeance

Winning with a vengeance

When the Cyclones first faced Waubonsee Community College early last month, they lost by 14 points. In their second meeting tonight, Moraine Valley earned their just revenge in a 21-point victory.

The previous loss hung onto the Cyclones like a gray cloud, which helped them focus in this game. A few other factors came into play, however. Christopher Harrison didn't play in that first encounter, and Ryan Saunders had an off day, which was a reversal from this matchup where both guys were on point. Harrison scored 18, Saunders banked 19, and each had eight rebounds and four assists. Dontia Johnson, meanwhile, had his best game of the year, scoring 38 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. The Chiefs are a tough team to guard, but there was a stretch in the second half where the Cyclones were able to stop them. They stretched the lead from seven to 17 and at one time 29 for the eventual 125-104 victory.

Collectively, the Cyclones are hard to guard when they have Harrison and Saunders shooting well and Jalen Hughes (22 points and three steals) having his typical night. When seven Cyclones are scoring, they're a force to be reckoned with. Zion Fortune also collected 16 points in the effort.
