He's not a secret anymore. In last night's NBA Draft, Richaun Holmes became the first Moraine Valley basketball player drafted in the big leagues. He was the 37th pick in the second round by the Philadelphia 76ers.

From Moraine Valley (2011-12) where he was an NJCAA All-American, Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Player of the Year and No. 1 blocker in the country to Bowling Green State University, where he was ranked 19th in the nation in blocked shots and won MAC Defensive Player of the Year, he's come a long way.

"What this means for Moraine Valley and our community is tough to put into words. I'll say this, it just goes to show you no matter your route, always dream big," said Dedrick Shannon, Holmes' former Moraine Valley basketball coach and current assistant coach at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. "Moraine Valley is a small place where big things can happen because of the great support system. This kid didn't make it because one specific person helped. He made it because a great group of people had a vision to help kids maximize their potential. That's Moraine Valley in a nutshell—good people helping student athletes become great people!"
