The Cyclones had one of their best showings ever at the NJCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship in Tyler, Texas, May 6-9, finishing 21st out of 29 teams as well as a fifth place finish by Aubree Schultz.
With a largely new roster, a second-year head coach, first-year assistant coach and new team captain, all the right pieces came together to give the Cyclones two championships and trip to nationals this season.
It’s been seven years since the Cyclones last won an NJCAA Region IV championship, and they earned it in dominating fashion and punched their ticket to nationals.
It’s been seven years since the Cyclones brought home an Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference championship…until today. Moraine Valley took a dominating 7-2 victory over the reigning champs from College of Lake County.
The Cyclones finally opened their season at Sauk Valley Community College. However, a few game-time injuries yielded some forfeits and contributed to their 5-4 loss.
Cyclone women’s tennis is looking to add a couple more athletes to its fall roster by holding tryouts on Friday, July 29, 5 to 6:30 p.m., on the tennis courts just south of Building H.
