Cyclones open running season

Cyclones open running season

The Cyclones opened their season on a warm night at the Saints Twilight Invite at Channahon Community Park. They didn't have enough runners to score as a full team but had some solid finishes from their freshmen roster.

Only two runners ran this 5K among a handful of community colleges and largely four-year colleges and universities. Annabel Lipkie crossed the line first for the Cyclones in 23:51.5 for 52nd place while Mariah Karamagianis finished in 26:21.8 for 61st. Lipkie was the second Skyway Conference runner to finish among the women.

"I am very proud with how Annabel and Mariah handled themselves. It was their first college race, and there were apparent nerves going into it, but they both showed a level of toughness and competitiveness that only comes out in races. That excites me for the future," said Head Coach Dimitri Dimizas. "They now have a few 6K races to focus on before dropping back down to the 5K in October, so we'll take what we can from this race and build from it."
