Big region playoff win over Owls

Big region playoff win over Owls

The Cyclones returned to the NJCAA Region 4 postseason with a dominating 4-1 performance over Oakton College.

This first round of playoffs has been a long time coming for the Cyclones after a few years of not advancing, but they were ready. They were quick to the ball and scored within the first few minutes of the game thanks to captain Dyani Calderon. Olivia Jeziorczak scored the second goal while Moraine Valley kept the Owls from getting anything in the net.

After halftime, the score remained 2-0 until the final six minutes of the game. Natalia Ochab slipped one past the keeper, and less than a minute later Calderon put one in the corner to go up 4-0. However, the Owls were finally able to sneak in a goal with four minutes to go to avoid the shutout.

Keeper Ximena Delgado had four saves this game. The Cyclones had a collective 19 shots on goal to the Owls' nine.

The Cyclones continue their run in the playoffs on Sunday, Oct. 29, noon, at Rock Valley College.
