Sophomore Send-off: Women’s soccer

The 2019 Cyclone women's soccer team had high standards to live up to. They ended the season with a 13-5 overall and 4-2 Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference record finishing second in the region and conference. The sophomores were accustomed to championships and a run at nationals, and although they couldn't help repeat that feat this season, they still put their all into every game for continued success and a No. 15 team ranking in the NJCAA. The Cyclones averaged 4.44 goals per game, tallied 80 goals and made roughly 23.5 shots per game. Head Coach Al Palar ended his fifth season with the Cyclones before being hired this spring as the head women's soccer coach at the University of Saint Francis. Although he is moving on, he still had plenty to say about the sophomores continuing their soccer careers.

Lauren Pikulski
"Lauren also will be attending and playing soccer at the University of St. Francis next year. Lauren mainly played center back for us, which is arguably the most important position on the field. She did an unbelievable job for us in that spot, really leading our defense to many shutouts and wins. She is fast and can be dangerous going forward if she gets the chance. This St. Francis coach sure knows how to recruit! Lauren will be studying elementary education."

Jasmine Quezada
"Jasmine will be attending and playing at the University of St. Francis (USF) next year. Jasmine was one of our biggest threats in the attack whenever she was on the field. She is extremely gifted with the ball at her feet, and she scored some incredible goals these past two years. She was really a creative playmaker for us, tallying 25 assists in two seasons (best on the team) while also chipping in 15 goals. The USF coach is really lucky to have her! Jasmine will be studying recreation and sports management."

Xochiquetzal (Xochi) Torres
"Xochi will be moving on to play at Division II Lewis University in Romeoville. She absolutely deserves it. She is one of the hardest working players and definitely the most passionate player I've coached in my five years at Moraine Valley. She played several positions for us in her two seasons, mostly playing as a center midfielder and as an outside back. Her willingness to adapt, her desire to WIN, and her great technical soccer ability will transfer over to any high level she wants to play at."
