Familiar territory; Cyclones headed to region finals

For the third time in four years, the Cyclones (22-8) are in a familiar spot — one more game from the national tournament — after winning their NJCAA Region IV semifinal game 71-59 over College of Lake County (19-11).

Having defeated the Lancers twice already this season, the Cyclones knew what they were up against and played accordingly. They jumped ahead 15-8 after the first quarter and maintained a consistent lead. Aside from the fourth quarter, Moraine Valley outscored the Lancers.

Leading the way was Kirsten Kamholz (21 points, six steals). Collecting another double-double, Nicole Poole added 12 points and 15 rebounds. Chelsea Cross also drained 12 while Marty Reeves knocked down 11. Briana Sanchez grabbed 10 under the basket.

Number one seed Moraine Valley faces the #3 seed Kankakee Community College Cavaliers (22-7) in the NJCAA Division II District Championship on Saturday, March 7, 2 p.m., in the Cyclone Center to determine who will compete at nationals.
