Next stop, semifinals

This was the way the Cyclones wanted to start their playoff run — strong and dominant. The women (21-8) took on the visiting Kishwaukee College Kougars (6-20) and won 83-49 in the NJCAA Region IV quarterfinals tonight.

Moraine Valley jumped ahead within the first minute but didn't run away with the game just yet. They were up 19-13 after the first quarter, but some focused scoring saw the Cyclones pull away by double digits for the 36-23 lead at the half. Nicole Poole tacked on a few three-pointers and steals to help her team extend the lead 61-36 in the third. They continued that run through the end of the game.

Chelsea Cross led the scoring effort with 15 in just 17 minutes of court time followed by Poole, who had a career high 20 rebounds and three blocks, and Kirsten Kamholz, who each had 14. Marty Reeves (12 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, three blocks, four steals) and Kaeli Ford (10 points, nine rebounds) also contributed.

The Cyclones continue their playoff run on Saturday, Feb. 29.
