Cyclones score 32 runs in split

It was another big scoring day for both teams as the Cyclones split a doubleheader with College of DuPage. Moraine Valley scored 32 runs between both games.

GAME 1
The Cyclones had two big innings to help elevate them past the Chaparrals in the first game, where they won 18-10.

They scored one run in the first and second innings, but the eight-run fifth gave them the six-run advantage. Megan McClelland (4-for-6, 3 RBIs) started that inning with a single followed by an Emma Hansen (2-for-5, 2B, 3B, 2 RBIs) triple, which she also scored on from a fielding error. Jolene Anderson (2-for-5, 2B) and Mya Granados (3-for-4, 2B, RBI) came up with a double and single, respectively, before Brialynn Mica (3-for-5, 2B, 2 RBIs) batted in the go-ahead run with a single to center field. Marissa Walsh (2-for-4, 2B, 3 RBIs) singled before Riley Evoy (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) batted into a double play, but not before another run scored. Maya Conners got on base with a walk and McClelland came up again with an RBI single. Hansen followed with an RBI double to end the inning up 10-4.

The Cyclones scored two more runs the next inning off a sac fly from Walsh and an RBI single from Evoy. The Chaparrals attempted to make a comeback, but the Cyclones had built a large enough lead to stay ahead. They scored six more runs in the seventh off an RBI double from Mica, a fielder's choice and error during Walsh's at-bat, double from Cassidy Ostema (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) and ground out by Maya Conners (1-for-4, RBI).

GAME 2
The Chaparrals had only 17 hits to the Cyclones' 16, but still dealt them the 24-14 loss.

The Cyclones scored first, but big hits from DuPage and fielding errors gave them the advantage. McClelland (1-for-5, 2B, 2 RBIs) got on base from a fielding error before she scored on a double from Anderson (3-for-3, 2x 2B, 3 RBIs). Granados also reached first on a fielding error to score Anderson. After Mica (2-for-3, 3B, RBI) walked, Walsh (2-for-3, RBI) hit an RBI single to see her team ahead 3-0.

The Chaparrals countered with four runs in their at-bat, but Hansen (2-for-4, HR, RBI) tied the score with an inside-the park homerun. The Cyclones got the go-ahead run with a double from Anderson, RBI single from Granados (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) and RBI triple from Mica. Ruby Amigon (1-for-3, RBI), Stephanie Lohman (1-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Conners (2-for-4, RBI) also scored runs that inning.

DuPage took back the lead in the third, but the Cyclones attempted a comeback in the fourth inning. Anderson hit a sac fly to score one and Granados hit an RBI single, but it wasn't enough.
