Cyclones fall to Lancers

Cyclones fall to Lancers

The Cyclones nearly had the College of Lake County Lancers in the first game and were silenced in the second of the doubleheader.

GAME 1
Moraine Valley took a quick 7-1 lead after the first two innings. Megan McClelland (2-for-4) started off with a single line drive followed by Emma Hansen (1-for-3, 3B, 2 RBIs) who walked. With two outs, Brialynn Mica (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBIs) came up to the plate and knocked in a run with a single to left field before the inning was over to go up 1-0. The Lancers countered in their at-bat to tie the game.

The second inning was a big one for the Cyclones as they scored six runs with two outs. Maya Conners (1-for-2) and McClelland each singled before Hansen hit a triple to score both. Jolene Anderson hit a pop fly but reached base on a fielding error, which Hansen scored on. Mya Granados (1-for-4, 2B, 2 RBIs) then hit an RBI double. Mica was up again and crushed a two-run homerun to right field to see her team go up 7-1.

It was quiet until the bottom of the third when the Lancers scored two on a homerun and added one more in the fifth to make it 7-4. The Cyclones added their final run in the sixth inning after Granados grounded out but scored Hansen who got on base from a fielding error. The Lancers edged closer with some Cyclone fielding errors in the sixth inning to get within one.

With three quick outs in the seventh inning, the Cyclones needed to hold the Lancers for the win. Two big hits and a fielding error gave Lake County the 9-8 win in their next at-bat.

Cassidy Ostema started this game on the mound, allowing six earned runs and striking out nine.

GAME 2
The nightcap was one the Cyclones would rather forget. The wind helped move the ball as Moraine Valley lost 31-0.

Only Hansen, Anderson and Marissa Walsh earned hits this game. Anderson and Riley Hayes also earned walks to get on base.
