Windy day pushes high scoring

Windy day pushes high scoring

The wind played a contentious part in the Cyclones' doubleheader with Waubonsee Community College, giving both teams more runs than usual. Moraine Valley lost both games.

GAME 1
The Cyclones took an early lead, but the Chiefs had three huge innings that jacked up the score and ultimately dealt Moraine Valley the 29-11 loss.

Jolene Anderson (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) knocked in the first run in the first inning with a double to left field. Right after her, Mya Granados (2-for-3, 3 RBIs) singled in another run. With two on and two out, Rachel Minnich (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) came up with a two-run RBI to see her team lead 4-0.

Granados added two more runs in her next at-bat after Megan McClelland (2-for-4, RBI) and Emma Hansen (1-for-4) each singled to get on. With two outs, Granados sent a long fly ball to right field for a single. In the bottom of the second, the Chiefs got on the board with several hits and took a 9-6 lead. They added eight more runs the following inning and the rest an inning later.

The Cyclones added five more runs in the top of the fourth. Cassidy Ostema (1-for-3) started the inning with a double before scoring on a single from McClelland. Anderson scored two more runs on a single to left field before Granados was walked. Minnich singled to load the bases, and Stephanie Lohman (2-for-3, 2 RBIs) doubled in their final two runs.

GAME 2
The Cyclones ran out of offensive power in the second game, losing the effort 23-5. Moraine Valley could only collect hits thanks to Anderson (1-for-1, 2B), Granados (1-for-3), Brialynn Mica (1-for-3, 2 RBIs), Marissa Walsh (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBIs) and Minnich (2-for-3). Despite the lopsided score, Cassidy Ostema started the game and struck out eight batters.
