Cyclones softball player throws first pitch at White Sox game

As a life-long Chicago White Sox fan, Mya Granados got to do something most people dream of – throw out the first pitch of the game. She had that experience on Sept. 13.

Thanks to a partnership between Moraine Valley and the White Sox, a lucky student-athlete was chosen for the pregame honor. The Cyclones softball coaches chose sophomore Granados, and two of them were able to watch her special feat.

Granados invited family members to the game, was able to sit in a suite and also did a student takeover of the Athletics Instagram page to share her special day.

"I felt really honored being chosen to throw the pitch. The day of, I was super excited but also very nervous since I have never been in front of that many people before," she explained. "In the moment, I was trying my best to soak it all in since it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but also I was trying to calm my nerves."

Last year, the Cyclones had a baseball player throw out the first pitch, and the T-shirt giveaway had Moraine Valley's logo on the sleeve, the latter of which also happened at this game.

Besides her family and coaches, three Cyclones teammates, who graduated in May, attended the game to cheer on Granados.

"It was surreal being on the field since I have always been a Sox fan and always go to their games. It was crazy just being able to see what the players see every night. I also really enjoyed seeing my family and friends so happy for me while I was on the field," Granados said. "Korey Lee caught the pitch, and he was so nice. The whole experience was just absolutely amazing from the suite to being on the field and hearing my name announced in the stadium. I really am just grateful for the whole experience."
