Cyclones take one from Chaparrals

The Cyclones split two with College of DuPage in their final regular season game.

With 12 hits in the first game, the Cyclones were able to secure a 9-4 victory. Down 2-1 going into the fifth inning, Moraine Valley was on fire at the plate, getting six runners across the plate. Arianna Andersen (1-for-3) started that inning with a single before Emily Manso (3-for-4) drove her home on a double to left to tie the score 2-2. Then Nicole Wagner (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, 2B) hit a long single to score Manso. Emily Madrigal (1-for-4) crushed a double, and with two outs, Maggie Evoy (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) drove both runners home on a single. Mya Granados (1-for-3) hit an RBI single, and Riley Evoy (2-for-4) hit an RBI double to get their team ahead 7-2. They only allowed the Chaparrals to score two more runs while tacking on two more of their own for the win. Cassidy Ostema was the winning pitcher, striking out two.

The Chaparrals scored first and held a lead that the Cyclones couldn't overcome in the next 6-3 loss. Even holding DuPage to all their runs in the first three innings, the Cyclones only scored in the fourth and sixth innings from an RBI double by Maggie Evoy (1-for-3, 2 RBIs), an RBI double by Alexandria Palumbo (1-for-3) and ground out from Evoy that scored a run. Ruby Amigon and Madrigal split pitching duties with the latter collected two strikeouts.

The Cyclones start playoffs on May 9 against a team TBD.
