Breaking out the brooms

Breaking out the brooms

The brooms were out as the Cyclones grabbed another sweep, this time over Harper College.

The Cyclones had 20 hits and one 12-run inning that gave them the edge in the 17-5 victory. All but two players earned RBIs, with Emily Madrigal (3-for-5, 2B) earning the most – four – along with her three hits and double. Harper tied the game in the bottom of the third at four before Nicole Wagner (2-for-5, 2 RBIs) drove Arianna Andersen (4-for-4, RBI, 2B) in on a single. The big inning saw singles from Mya Granados (2-for-4), Kaitlyn Dunagan (2-for-4 RBI), Maya Conners (2-for-4, RBI), Alexandria Palumbo (3-for-5, 2 RBIs), Emily Manso (2-for-5, 3 RBIs) and Madrigal, who also had a double that inning.

The second game came a little too close for comfort as the Hawks attempted a comeback; the Cyclones had enough runs to edge them out 8-7. Madrigal (2-for-4) started the scoring in her first at-bat with an RBI double. Palumbo (3-for-4) then drove in a run on a double, and Granados (1-for-3) added one more with a single. They added two more runs in the third inning after Madrigal and Palumbo singled with Madrigal scoring on a fielding error. Granados ground out to second, which scored Palumbo to make it 5-0. Their final runs came in the top of the fifth when Palumbo doubled and scored on a wild pitch. Granados walked and advanced on a single from Riley Evoy (1-for-3). Andersen (1-for-4) scored them both with a massive triple to go up 8-0. The next two innings saw a string of hits from the Hawks to get the Cyclones nervous, but a quick bottom of the seventh sealed the victory.
