Splitsville with Cougars

In some high-scoring games, the Cyclones split with Highland Community College.

The first game saw a high-powered offense from the Cougars. Even though Moraine Valley collected 10 hits, they lost 16-7. The Cougars scored first and led the entire game, despite some attempted comebacks by the Cyclones. Down 4-0 in the bottom of the second, Moraine Valley scored two from a fielding error and single from Kaitlyn Dunagan (3-for-3, RBI, 2B). The next few innings, Highland continued scoring while the Cyclones tacked on five more runs. Arianna Andersen (1-for4, 2 RBIs, 2B), Nicole Wagner (2-for-4, RBI) and Emily Manso (3-for-4, RBI, 2B) also got runners across the plate.

The Cyclones saw a last inning comeback for the 13-10 win in the second game as they amassed 22 hits. Highland struck first with seven runs and scored their final runs in the fourth inning. Meanwhile, Moraine Valley made inroads with runs in the second through fourth innings. Riley Evoy (3-for-4, 2B) got a runner across in the second. Then Emily Madrigal (1-for-3, RBI), Mya Granados (2-for-4, 3 RBIs) and Evoy each singled in a run in the third. The Cyclones tacked on two more in the fourth inning from a double from Andersen (3-for-5, 2 RBIs, 2B) and single from Wagner (2-for-5, 2 RBIs). Down 10-7 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cyclones made their move. Madrigal walked, Alexandria Palumbo (3-for-4) doubled, and Granados knocked both of them in with a line drive single to make it 10-9. Dunagan (3-for-4, 2 RBIs, 2B) hit the go-ahead double to drive in two runs. Manso (4-for-5, RBI, 2B) and Wagner each added some insurance runs with RBI singles. With the Cougars up to bat for redemption, they flied out all three at-bats with Madrigal on the mound for the win.
