Wagner's walk-off single gives Cyclones the split with Scots

In two tight games with McHenry County College, the Cyclones lost one game and won one each in the final innings for the split.

The bats were moving for both teams in this first game, as the Cyclones out hit the Scots 11-10. Moraine Valley earned all their runs in the first two innings. Arianna Andersen (2-for-3) started the game with a double to centerfield. Then Emily Manso (1-for-3) grounded into a fielder's choice, which got Andersen out. Nicole Wagner (3-for-3, 2 RBIs) singled before Emily Madrigal (1-for-2) rocked a three-run homerun. The Scots countered with four runs of their own to squeak ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the first. When the Cyclones came back to the plate, they earned four walks in addition to a Mya Granados (2-for-4) single and a two-run double from Wagner to take back the lead 6-4. A quick succession of outs moved the game to the fourth inning when the Scots homered to get within one. The Cyclones had a few more singles over the next at-bats, but none yielded any more runs. The Scots had singles and doubles to even the score in the bottom of the fifth before taking the lead by playing small ball and dealing Moraine valley the 7-6 loss. Pitcher Cassidy Ostema had three strikeouts in the effort.

The Cyclones collected 16 hits in the nightcap with the winning run coming from a Wagner (3-for-5) single for the 10-9 victory in the bottom of the seventh. The Scots got on the board first, but Riley Evoy tied it at one with an RBI single. Andersen and Manso (3-for-5) drove in runs that same inning to get ahead 3-1. It was short-lived, however, as the Scots took back the lead, getting up 7-3 by the fifth inning. But the Cyclones didn't give in. They next came up to bat with some hits, including a sac fly by Granados to drive home a run and an RBI double from Maggie Evoy to get within two. Although the Scots added another run in the sixth, the Cyclones retook the lead in the bottom of the inning. Kaitlyn Dunagan (2-for-3) singled, Andersen doubled her home, then Manso had an RBI double and Wagner singled in a run to tie the game 8-8. Alexandria Palumbo (3-for-4) hit a single blooper before Granados grounded out to score Wagner for the 9-8 lead. Another string of hits for the Scots in the top of the seventh tied the game again at nine-all. Dunagan, Manso and Wagner all singled in the bottom of the inning with Wagner (who went 6-for-8 over the doubleheader) driving home the winning run.
