Big hits not enough against Pioneers

Big hits not enough against Pioneers

The Cyclones lost another battle to Prairie State College, putting up some big hits in the effort.

The first 10-9 loss was only determined in the bottom of the ninth inning. Each team battled back nearly every inning until the seventh when the Cyclones put two more on the board to lead 8-5 before the Pioneers tied it with three of their own runs. In the top of the ninth, Maya Conners got on base from a fielding error from a ground ball before Arianna Andersen drove her home on a double to left field to put their team ahead 9-8. However, the Pioneers got one on base from a fielding error, a single and a two-run single to deal the Cyclones the loss. Moraine Valley had 13 hits in this game, and Emily Manso led the way, going 4-for-6 with 3 RBIs and two doubles. Riley Evoy (3-for-5, double, RBI), Emily Madrigal (3-for-5, RBI) and Alexandria Palumbo (1-for-5, double, RBI) also contributed.

Madrigal (2-for-3) was the big hitter in the second game, but three consistent innings from the Pioneers saw the Cyclones lose 10-5. After Nicole Wagner doubled in the top of the first, Madrigal drove her in from a single to left. The Pioneers tied the score n the second after a runner was walked and then scored on a line drive double. Madrigal came out swinging again in the third. Manso singled and Wagner got on base from a fielding error before Madrigal knocked them both after launching a homerun to get her team up 4-1. A fielding error and several solid hits saw the Pioneers tie the score up in the fourth. The Cyclones earned their final run of the game to tie things at five in the fifth inning after Kaitlyn Dunagan and Wagner hit grounders that the Pioneers bobbled. However, Prairie State tallied a string of hits in the next few innings to give the Cyclones the loss.
