Big split with Panthers

Big split with Panthers

The Cyclones split their latest outing with Morton College in two more big offensive decisions.

Both teams amassed so many runs in the first game, the 19-all tie pushed it into 10 innings. The Cyclones had a big second inning, scoring 10 runs, which included RBI singles from Mya Granados and Riley Evoy (3-for-5); a three-run double from Emily Manso; a two-run double from Alexandria Palumbo (2-for-5); one-run doubles from Emily Madrigal (3-for-7) and Maggie Evoy (4-for-6); and a hard hit grounder from Granadas that fielded an error and scored one. The Panthers put a string of hits together to nearly even the score, but the fourth inning saw the Cyclones come roaring back. Madrigal doubled in a run and Granadas singled in another. A fielder's choice and sac fly put two more on the board before Nicole Wagner (4-for-7) hit a line drive to centerfield to drive in one run, and Palumbo doubled to get the team up 16-9. However, the Panthers continued to chip away and ultimately retake the lead 19-16 by the bottom of the sixth. With three more outs to redeem themselves, the Cyclones tied the game in the top of the seventh on an RBI double from Maggie Evoy and a two-run double from Kaitlyn Dunagan.

The 10th inning became the deciding factor in this game. Madrigal doubled in Emily Manso before Granadas reached base on an infield error that scored Wagner. Riley Evoy added her team's 22 run on a sac fly. Leading 22-19, the Cyclones were unable to hold off the Panthers in their final at-bat that collected a single, scored on an error and hit a two-run homerun. The Cyclones lost the effort 23-22.

Moraine Valley redeemed themselves in the nightcap, winning the affair 15-7 thanks to two big innings – the second and third. Dunagan (2-for-3), Andersen (3-for-4), Wagner (3-for-4) and Madrigal (1-for-2) each singled in runs. The other came from a bases loaded walk. In the third inning, Granadas (1-for-1) shot a liner to right field before Riley Evoy (1-for-3) launched a two-run homerun. Manso (2-for-3) and Wagner had RBI singles before Granadas and Maggie Evoy (1-for-1) were hit by pitches to also score. Although the Panthers had a string of hits, they couldn't stop the Cyclones this time. Madrigal was the winning pitcher.
