So close

So close

In their first conference matchup of the season, the Cyclones dropped two close ones to Prairie State College.

The first game saw a pitchers' duel with Cassidy Ostema taking the mound for Moraine Valley. She struck out two, only allowed two earned runs and recorded 21 outs. The Pioneers didn't score until the fourth inning on a two-run triple and once more in the fifth. The Cyclones got their lone run in the bottom of the sixth after Nicole Wagner hit a line drive triple to centerfield and scored on a passed ball. Emily Madrigal also had a triple and Riley Evoy doubled but weren't able to cross the plate in the 3-1 loss.

The offense was off and running in the second game for both teams. The Pioneers starting the scoring in the first inning and led 4-0 by the top of the fourth; but that's when the Cyclones finally tallied some runs to tie the game. Riley Evoy, Kaitlyn Dunagan and Arianna Andersen each singled to get on base before Emily Manso cleared the bags on a line drive triple to centerfield. Wagner then grounded out but was able to score Manso. In the next inning, Madrigal walked, Maya Granados singled and Maggie Evoy hit a pop fly and reached first on a fielding error, also scoring two runs. However, the Pioneers tied it in the bottom of the fifth. The Cyclones added two more runs in the sixth after Madrigal singled in Alexandria Palumbo and Wagner. They added their final two runs in the top of the seventh from an RBI single by Wagner, and Manso stole home. It was Cyclone errors in the bottom of the seventh that allowed the Pioneers to score five runs and deal them the 11-10 loss.
