Cyclone runners prove their skills in and out of classroom

The Cyclone cross country teams proved once again that have brains and brawn, evidenced by their latest designation as Cross Country Scholar All Americans.

For the fifth consecutive year, the men's team was named a Cross Country Scholar All America Team by the National Junior College Cross Country Coaches Association. The team included David Alvarez, Diego Arana, Isaiah Flores, John Donovan and Salah Mustafa. Five individuals also earned Scholar All American honors: Madison Krisch, Victoria Granz, Calista Stefaniak, Salah Mustafa and Donovan. Additionally, this past season the women's team earned the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference championship. Alvarez, Arana, Donovan, Krisch, Granz and Stefaniak also ran at the national tournament in November.

"It's such a great accomplishment. Being successful in sports is great. It shows you are willing to work hard and also shows that you have a certain level of talent. But to be successful in the classroom is all about hard work and sacrifice. Being a Scholar All-American is a goal that everyone had for themselves at the very start of the season, and these individuals should be extremely proud of themselves for seeing it through to the end," said Head Coach Dimitri Dimizas. "This is the fifth year in a row that the men's team has been recognized as a Scholar All-American Team, and I hope this is something that continues each year. They were the only men's team from Illinois to receive this award, and that speaks volumes to our school and the types of students we have in this program."
