The Cyclones opened their season after a two-year hiatus with a big 7-2 victory at home over Illinois Valley Community College on a cold and windy day.
Moraine Valley swept the first five singles matches thanks to Yianni Livieratos (6-2, 7-6), Ali Amer (6-0, 6-0), David Souza (6-2, 6-1), James Coan (6-1, 6-2), and a rousing three-set match from Jakub Zolnik (2-6, 6-4, 11-9). In doubles play, Livieratos and Souza added to their winnings at the No. 1 spot (6-4, 7-5). The Cyclones received an injury default at No. 3 doubles.
Tomorrow, they take on the two-time defending NJCAA Region IV champions at Prairie State College. Prairie State has given the Cyclones their only two losses over the past three years.
