Season opener yields a win

In their season opener, the Cyclones traveled to Sugar Grove to face Skyway Conference rival Waubonsee Community College. Their focus and pressure paid off in a 2-1 victory.

The first half was a defensive battle as neither team could find the net, ending in a scoreless tie. The Cyclones then put on the pressure early in the second half, and Colin Kroll was able to break away and score around the Chiefs to get his team ahead 1-0.

Nearly 10 minutes later, the Chiefs knocked in the tying shot over the reaching keeper, Andruw Martinez. The Chiefs made a few more scoring threats, but the Cyclones, and a few saves by Martinez, were able to hold them off. With minutes remaining, Moraine Valley earned a free kick 25 yards from the goal, which Fernando Barragan blasted into the corner to move the Cyclones ahead 2-1 for the win. The defense continued to maintain pressure and hold the lead.
