First outing = success

First outing = success

Cyclone golf was the first Moraine Valley team to enter competition this fall during the pandemic. And they came out unscathed with a decent finish to boot in their season opener Sept. 9 at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont.

The scores were generally high, which is typical for the first fall outing. Waubonsee Community College finished in first with 337 points. College of Lake County was down one at 338 followed by Elgin Community College (344), Moraine Valley (351) and Oakton Community College (410). The Cyclones had only practiced together one day before this event.

Sophomore Marty Bennett led the Cyclones and finished T-5 (81). His peak moment came on a tough 15th hole (par 5), where he hit three solid shots for an eagle. Paul Douglas tied his teammate with a solid round. Although he struggled on the front nine (43), he was a new man on the back nine and posted a +2 score of 38. Also contributing to the cause were Conner Finn (94), Randy Miller (95), Patrick Clifton (96) and Jack McDonald (96).
