Cyclones control Chiefs

When Waubonsee Community College (11-4) came to the Cyclone Center to face the Cyclones (12-3), both teams were well matched. But Moraine Valley was able to capitalize on mistakes and largely control the game for the 92-78 victory.

Within a few minutes of tipoff, the Cyclones gained the lead, but the Chiefs were constantly on their tail, always staying within six points. Several turnovers from the Chiefs helped Moraine Valley maintain a lead. However, a series of missed shots from the Cyclones allowed the Chiefs to tie the game at 37 with less than four minutes in the first half. Waubonsee held a short 29-27 lead before Luis Acevedo sunk two consecutive three-pointers that helped his team regain the lead that they never relinquished. Some free throws and field goals kept the Chiefs close at halftime, with the Cyclones only up 37-35.

The second half saw the Cyclones' offense taking control and extending the lead, starting with early baskets from Kobe Adams, Trace Williams and Enari Thomas. It was just over four minutes before the Chiefs sunk a field goal. However, the Cyclones had already gone ahead by 10 points, going up by as much as 21. Moraine Valley wouldn't let the Chiefs gain much ground the rest of the game and earned their second Skyway Conference win.

Acevedo led the offense with 20 points, going 5-for-7 from the three-point line. Adams added 19 points while Thomas had 14 points and six assists. Williams earned his first triple-double of the season (13 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists) and led with six steals. Taijon Barry also contributed with 12 points.
