Lopez goes 5-for-8 in doubleheader

The Cyclones had the offense in their doubleheader with Rock Valley College but came up just short in both games.

GAME 1
The Cyclones were right there with the Golden Eagles, but dropped the first game 7-4. A string of solid hits gave the Golden Eagles an early 4-0 lead before the Cyclones scored. Ethan Lopez (3-for-4) started the fourth inning with a triple before Christian Rosales (1-for-3, RBI) and Austin Zernia (1-for-3) walked. Christian Cardenas hit a sac fly to center field to score Lopez.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Lopez hit his second triple of the game before Rosales knocked him in on a single to right field. Zernia singled and Niko Mastoras walked to load the bases before Jack Hoh (2-for-5) hit a hard grounder that was bobbled by the third baseman to score one run. Dimitri Spatharakis (3-for-5, RBI) tied the game 4-4 with a line drive before the inning was over.

Holding each other in the seventh, the extra inning is where Rock Valley had the edge with some singles and a double to retake the lead. With the Cyclones having last at-bats, Spatharakis singled to get on, but wasn't able to score.

GAME 2
The Cyclones attempted another comeback in the nightcap, coming close but losing the effort 13-10.

Rock Valley took a 5-0 lead before the Cyclones scored in the bottom of the fourth. Ayden Lasson (2-for-4) started the inning with a single to right field followed by Jayden Armstrong taking a walk. Coming off a strong offensive start in game one came up and scored three with a homerun.

A string of hits in the top of the fifth extended the Golden Eagles' lead to 11-3. In the bottom of the sixth, Hoh (1-for-4) got on with a hard grounder bobbled by the shortstop. Lopez (2-for-4, 3 RBIs) then singled before Emmet Barry (1-for-3, 2 RBIs), Nicholas Haran (2-for-4, 2 RBIs) and Jaylun Camper (1-for-4, RBI) each hit an RBI single to cut the lead 11-6.

The Golden Eagles tacked on two more runs in the seventh when the Cyclones attempted a rally in their at-bat. They loaded the bases with two walks and a single from Hoh. Barry was walked to bring home a run before Haran hit an RBI single. Then Kevin Golinski (1-for-3, RBI) was walked to score another run and make it 13-9. With two outs, Augustus White (1-for-3, RBI) came up with an RBI single to the shortstop, but that was it as the next batter grounded out to end the game.
