Some key hits in Cyclone split

On a perfect baseball day, the Cyclones split a doubleheader with Prairie State College, winning the first game 6-5 before a 5-2 loss.

GAME 1
The Pioneers got on the board first and led 3-0 before the Cyclones scored. In the bottom of the third with two outs, Christian Rosales (1-for-4) singled and got to second on an error. Niko Mastoras (2-for-5, 2B, 3B, 2 RBIs) came up next and hit a line double to score him.

Moraine Valley, however, tied the game 3-3 in the fourth inning. Dimitri Spatharakis (2-for-4, 2B) started with a single before Arnoldo Velazquez (1-for-2, 2B) doubled. Xavier Aguilar was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Christian Cardenas (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) was hit by a pitch to walk in a run to make it 3-2. Austin Zernia came up next and was walked to tie the game.

Still tied in the fifth, the Cyclones grabbed a short lead starting with two consecutive doubles from Spatharakis and Ethan Lopez (2-for-4, 2B x2, RBI). With two men on base, Cardenas knocked in another run from a single to left. In their next at-bat, the Pioneers tied the game 5-5, so it came down to last inning heroics to pull out the win. Rosales was hit by a pitch to get on before Mastoras hit a screaming go-ahead triple for the win.

Nate Pacetti was the starting pitcher with three strikeouts and three earned runs. Ryan McDonnell closed out the game, allowing zero runs and striking out one.

GAME 2
The Cyclone bats were a little quieter in the second game, with only four hits collectively. Moraine Valley didn't score until the fourth inning after Spatharakis (1-for-3) singled, Lopez (1-for-2) walked and Xavier Aguilar (1-for-3) doubled to drive in two runs and tie the game. The Pioneers, however, earned the go-ahead run in the seventh on a couple of hits.

The other Cyclone hits came from Rosales (1-for-3) with a single in the third and double from Lopez in the sixth. Dane McDonald pitched this game, striking out seven and walking just one.
