Cyclones strike out 20 in split with Eagles

In an attempt to qualify for playoffs, the Cyclones added two more games to their schedule with Illinois Valley Community College. They split the outing with the Eagles in two close ones.

It wasn't until the bottom of the seventh that the Cyclones lost the first game 3-2. The Eagles went up 1-0 in the first inning on a fielding error. Moraine Valley evened things in the fifth when Christian Cardenas (1-for-3) singled in a run. In the top of the seventh, Yashion Boswell (2-for-3) put his team up 2-1 after lining a single to center field and bringing home Arnoldo Velazquez (2-for-3), who hit a double. It was a well-pitched game, but the Eagles struck in their next at-bat with a single, fielding error and triple that scored the tying and go-ahead run. Daniel Rosado threw a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out nine.

Ben Cash threw a shutout in the next game, allowing one hit and striking out 11 in the 3-0 victory. The Cyclones first scored in the third inning after Boswell (1-for-3) and Cardenas (1-for-2) each singled before an error by the catcher allowed Boswell to score. Cardenas then ran across the plate on a passed ball. The game moved quickly until the seventh when Cardenas and William Miller walked, and Jake Cummins was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Danzel Lucas grounded out to first base but was able to score Cardenas.
