Cyclones celebrate sophomores and sweep of Skyhawks

On the day they recognized their sophomores, the Cyclones swept the visiting Sauk Valley Community College Skyhawks at home.

The first game came down to a walk-off RBI hit by Danzel Lucas (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) for the 3-2 win. Daniel Rosado kept the Skyhawks in check from the mound, allowing two runs and striking out seven, while Joshua Basinger earned the save, striking out two. At the plate, Moraine Valley scored first in the bottom of the first after Lucas got Jack Hoh (2-for-4) across the plate on a double. Sauk Valley tied the game in the third with a solo homerun and took a one-run lead in the fifth from a fielding error. Lucas struck again in the bottom of that inning when he hit a hard grounder that caused a fielding error and scored Hoh again. With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh, William Miller (1-for-4) doubled to get on before Lucas knocked in the go-ahead run on a fly ball to right field.

In the second game, the Cyclones needed one inning to take the lead and held on for the 5-3 win. Sauk Valley was up 2-0 after two innings, and that's when the Cyclones struck. Gilberto Hernandez (2-for-2) started the inning with a double before Arnoldo Velazquez (1-for-1) walked and Jake Lisk got on from a fielding error. Yashion Boswell (1-for-3, 3 RBIs) cleared the bases with a triple to take the lead 3-2. With a full count, Hoh (1-for-4) drove Boswell home with a double. Hoh stole third and scored on a passed ball to get his team up 5-2. The innings flew after that until the Skyhawks scored one more run in the seventh, but the Cyclones were able to retain the lead, thanks in part to the winning pitcher, Ben Cash. He threw a complete game, striking out six.
