Good ball not enough

Good ball not enough

Although they played some good ball, the Cyclones fell short in both games with Saint Xavier University JV.

The Cyclones took the lead in the first game in the fifth inning until the Cougars came back in the bottom of the sixth on some hits, walks and errors. Moraine Valley notched four runs in the fourth inning led by doubles from Arnoldo Velazquez (2-for-3) and Jake Lisk (1-for-4) and a single from William Miller (3-for-4). Even in this loss, the Cyclones had seven hits to the Cougars six. Ryan O'Shea toed the rubber for the Cyclones, allowing four hits and six runs while striking out six. Nomar Areizaga threw one inning in relief in the 8-7 loss.

Both pitchers had their hands full in the second game but the Cougars came out ahead 12-6. Moraine Valley scored all their runs in the first two innings in part to several walks and singles from Daniel Rosado (1-for-3) and Christian Cardenas (1-for-2, 3 RBIs) and double from Nate Pacetti (1-for-3). But Saint Xavier continued scoring each inning for the win. Ryan McDonnell started on the mound, striking out two, with Areizaga in relief.
