Cyclones score 24 runs in Spartans sweep!

For the first time this season, the Cyclones swept a series, outscoring the Elgin Community College Spartans 24- 9.

Jack Hoh had a day at the plate in the first game, going 4-for-4. He doubled in the first and second innings, singled in the fourth and went long with a homerun in the fifth. Danzel Lucas (2-for-4) got his team on the board first with a three-run double in the first inning before Arnoldo Velazquez (2-for-3) doubled Lucas home. Christian Cardenas drove Velazquez home after grounding out. After Hoh got on in the second inning, William Miller homered to get the Cyclones ahead 7-0. The Spartans finally got a run in the third. A string of singles and a walk in the fourth added two more runs for the Cyclones. Hoh had a two-run homerun in the fifth before Peter Mitchell (2-for-4) doubled home Maxwell Hensler (1-for-2), who hit a double to get on base. Daniel Rosado was a key part of holding off the Spartans, striking out 12 and only allowing two earned runs while throwing some 90 mile per hour pitches.

The Spartans battled back from the get-go in the second game, scoring five runs in the first two innings to take a 5-0 lead. However, that's where their scoring ended and the Cyclones started. In the bottom of the second, Lucas (1-for-3) and Velazquez (1-for-2) walked before Cardenas (1-for-2) reach base on a dropped third strike. Jake Lisk (1-for-3) grounded out but was able to get Velazquez across the plate. Lucas and Cardenas also scored on wild pitches that inning to trail the Spartans by two. The Cyclones were back at it in the third inning. Hoh (1-for-4) reached first on a fielding error before Miller (2-for-3) was hit by a pitch. Hensler (1-for-4) knocked a run in from a single as did Mitchell (1-for-4) to tie the score 5-5. Velazquez helped his team take the lead on a two-run single two batters later before Cardenas batted in another run to make it 8-5. Holding off any Spartans offense, the Cyclones tacked on a few more runs in the fifth after Lisk tripled with the bases loaded. Hoh then knocked him in on a screaming single to left field. Ben Cash was the winning pitcher in this 12-5 game, striking out seven and allowing five runs.
