Cyclones end skid; Villafuerte shuts out Chiefs

The Cyclones broke a four-game slide with a pair of victories over Waubonsee Community College. Big hits along with a shutout game by Christopher Villafuerte helped the cause.

The hits kept coming as the Cyclones collected eight overall in their 7-2 win. They put the game out of reach in the seventh inning with four runs from Stephen Insley and Patrick Hayes, both sending runners across the plate. Maximus Bullock had multiple hits this game while Hayes went 3-for-4 and tallied 4 RBIs at the plate to lead the offense. Anthony Cappelletti also earned an RBI.

Daniel Rosado earned the victory on the hill, going seven innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out six and walking one.

Villafuerte was unstoppable on the mound in the nightcap, holding off the Chiefs in an 11-0 shutout. He went five innings, allowing just two hits, walking one and striking out five.

The offense helped Villafuerte, tallying nine hits this game. Moraine Valley opened scoring in the first inning when Andrew Tenison (2-for-3, 4 RBIs) singled on a 3-2 count to score two. They scored four more in the third off a triple from Bullock, a single by Jake Peterka (1-for-2, 2 RBIs) and a Patrick Hayes double. The Cyclones also were quick on the bags, stealing six bases. Thomas Carlson and Insley each stole two.
