Excitement continues in Cyclone sweep

Excitement continues in Cyclone sweep

Not to be outdone by the excitement of their last few games, the Cyclones kept things moving in their sweep of College of DuPage.

Liz McCuan started in the circle and went seven strong innings for the 7-3 win. She allowed just three hits and two earned runs while striking out two and walking four. Meanwhile, the Cyclone offense pounded out 11 hits with Donna Booe providing a two-run bomb, her third this season, to blow the game open in the four-run second inning. Angela Abrand scored twice and stole two bases while Madi Davis continued her hot hitting, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Samantha Stahl chipped in with an RBI single in the fourth inning.

Mariah Martinez threw a masterful seven inning gem in a tight ballgame to lead her team to the 2-1 victory and doubleheader sweep. She scattered five hits allowing just one run while walking only one batter and striking out eight. Darcee Nichols broke a scoreless tie in the fourth with a two-out single that scored Booe to give the Cyclones the 1-0 lead. The Chaparrals tied the game in the fifth but Martinez and the Cyclone defense shut them down the rest of the way. In the bottom of the fifth, Abrand singled and scored from first on an RBI double from Davis on the go-ahead winning run.
