Sweet home opening victory

Sweet home opening victory

There's no better way to start a season than with a win. That's how the Cyclones opened their 2019 contest, taking a 7-2 victory from the visiting Illinois Valley Community College Eagles.

Moraine Valley swept the singles 6-0 to open up a lead in their opening match of the year, winning the first four positions in straight sets and receiving two defaults at fifth and sixth singles. Those wins came from Nick Karczynski (6-2, 6-0) at No. 1 singles, No. 2 player Alex Kokoszka (6-1, 6-0), No. 3 Seth Yeager (6-0, 6-1) and No. 4 David Sousa (6-2, 6-2). In doubles, Coach Steve Yates played the No. 3 and No. 4 doubles teams at the No. 1 and No. 2. The Cyclones lost those two spots after hard-fought battles, including No. 2 duo John McGuire and Sean McKernan (3-6, 6-1, 3-10). Tim Flynn and Mateusz Marusarz fell 3-6, 3-6 at No. 1.
