The sophomores from the 2019 soccer team have plenty to be proud of. They ended the fall season with an overall 16-5 record and went 6-1 in conference for a co-championship. They tallied 64 goals overall and averaged 3.05 goals per game and 15.6 shots per game. Several players earned honors. A number of sophomores are continuing their education and some will continue to play soccer. Head Coach Chris Koloffon has some things to say about those athletes moving on.
For their second consecutive season, the Cyclones earned an Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference co-championship, finished with a solid record and earned individual honors.
Even putting their best efforts on the field, the Cyclones couldn’t stop a resilient Morton College squad in the Region IV semifinals. Moraine Valley fell 3-1 to the Panthers.
All the Cyclones needed to do was win their game with College of Lake County to at least split an Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference title. They did just that and then some.
In the battle between father and son, pops won out. The Cyclones’ Head Coach TJ Donahue saw his team face Daley College, which is coached by his son. Moraine Valley prevailed in dominating fashion, winning the matchup at home 9-0.
The measure of a talented team is based on how strong their starters as well as bench players are collectively. The Cyclones proved their team might in a 5-1 victory over McHenry County College.
In only their third game of the season, the Cyclones fought through two overtimes against a team they’ve never faced before, Monroe Community College (NY), falling in the last two minutes.
The wind was fierce, but the battle on the soccer field was fiery. The Cyclones faced an always tough Morton College, a team they shared a conference championship with last season, but fell 3-1 in their home opener.
This was the way to start off the season. The Cyclones shut out Kennedy-King College 2-0 in a game that highlighted their offensive and defensive strengths.
The last few years, the Cyclones have boasted nearly perfect records and co-conference championships. This season, they want an outright title and to go deep in the playoffs.
