Cyclones add another sweep to their collection

The Cyclones added another sweep to their collection, scoring 25 runs against Prairie State College.

Although the Pioneers scored first, the Cyclones hit back with a five-run second thanks to a sac fly from John Gonsalves and several errors that plated runners. Then a big eight-run third inning sealed the deal coming in the form of walks by Maximus Bullock, Scott Richards, Stephen Insley and Gonsalves, a single by Jake Peterka, and an error on a ball put in play by Andrew Tenison. Richards led Moraine Valley with two hits in two at-bats. Jonathan Runquist led the 13-2 victory from the hill, lasting four innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out three and walking one. Nick Easton threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

In game two, the Pioneers started the scoring, but a few big Cyclone innings kept them ahead for the 12-4 win.

The Cyclones knotted the game up at two in the top of the second inning after an error helped them score. In the fourth, Peterka singled on the first pitch of the at-bat to drive in one run before Christopher Villafuerte singled to score the other. A five-run sixth inning was led by Anthony Cappelletti, Tyler Sinclair and Thomas Carlson, who each had RBIs. Of the 14 Cyclone hits, multiples came from Gonsalves (3-for-3), Peterka, Cappelletti, Sinclair and Villafuerte. Jace McWilliams was the winning pitcher after going three innings and allowing two runs on four hits while striking out five. Tenison and Luke Bentley entered from the bullpen to help close out the game in relief.
