Walkoff trouble

Walkoff trouble

The walkoff struck once more. Moraine Valley can't seem to shake the walkoff loss this season, becoming victims to it again in their 10-9 loss to Kankakee Community College.

There was a balanced offensive attack from both teams as they almost always countered when the other scored. Moraine Valley took a lead in the second inning after Stephen Insley singled on a 2-0 count to score one run. Maximus Bullock knocked in a run off a first-pitch triple in the sixth before the Cavaliers answered with some runs. Then the Cyclones put up a three-run seventh inning led by Insley and Christopher Villafuerte before Kankakee saw a three-run eighth. In the bottom of the ninth, the Cyclones were ahead 9-8 when the Cavaliers scored the go-ahead runs.

Overall, the Cyclones collected 11 hits to the Cavaliers' eight. Alex Martinez, Patrick Hayes, Insley and Villafuerte each had two hits. Daniel Rosado started the game for Moraine Valley. The righty went four innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out four. Byron Scholp took over in relief and earned the loss. He lasted two-thirds of an inning, allowing one hit and two runs while striking out two.
