Alex Martinez earns big hits in Cyclone loss

Even though it just wasn't the Cyclones' day, Alex Martinez was busy at the plate, including a three-run homer when they faced South Suburban College in a doubleheader.

Moraine Valley got things moving in the first inning when Martinez had his big shot on a 1-0 count. They held that lead until the Bulldogs tied it in the bottom of the sixth, which stayed deadlocked into the 10th inning. The Cyclones drove in two runs, but the Bulldogs added three for the 6-5 victory.

The Cyclones racked up six hits with Anthony Cappiletti and Patrick Hayes each collecting two. Brett Renken was on the mound, where he surrendered only three runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out six. Brendan Gill threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

The Cyclone bats were less active in game two while the Bulldogs came alive. South Suburban scored first in the first inning, tallied four more in the third and ultimately finished with 10 to Moraine Valley's two.

Andrew Tenison, Christopher Villafuerte, Tyler Sinclair, Martinez, Stephen Insley and Jake Peterka each had one hit in the affair. Byron Scholp was on the mound for two and a third innings, allowing five hits and six runs while striking out three. Nick Easton and Luke Bentley entered the game from the bullpen, each throwing less than two innings.
