Cyclone bats come alive in Arkansas

The Cyclones are hoping to bring some of that southern winning back to the Midwest after sweeping the competition in Arkansas.

In their first matchup, March 7, the Cyclones took two from Hesston College. The first game saw the Cyclones break things open with a big seven-run third inning. A few errors by Hesston helped the cause, but so did hits from Nate Villagomez (2-for-3, 2 RBIs), who also stole home, and Chris Villafuerte (2-for-4, double, 2 RBIs). They tacked on five more runs in the sixth for the 13-3 rout. Niles Gall (1-for-3, double, 2 RBIs) contributed as did Josh McArthur and Alex Martinez, who each had an RBI. Michael Dudek earned the win on the mound, striking out six.

The second game with Hesston was more of a nail biter as the teams battled for control. It wasn't until a triple from Gall (1-for-4, two stolen bases) on an 0-2 count in a tied ninth inning that sent in the go-ahead run (Villagomez). The Cyclones were able to hold any comeback and take home the 10-9 victory. Andrew Tenison earned the win with five strikeouts and no earned runs. Steve Insley had a big game with three RBIs, two doubles and stolen base. Villafuerte (2-for-6, RBI) and Antulio Esparza (1-for-4, 2 RBIs, double) also contributed.
