Phillip Hyland, walk-off winner

Phillip Hyland was the walk-off hero for the Cyclones March 22 as they won 7-6 over Oakton Community College in extra innings.

The Cyclones jumped out to a four-run lead in the first. Kyel Alexander (2-for-4, two doubles, a run) led off with a double and was brought home on an RBI groundout from Thomas Moran (2-for-5, RBI, double, single, two runs). Antulio Esparza (2-for-4, RBI, two singles, a run) added an RBI single, driving home Stephen Insley (1-for-4, single, 2 runs). Gerald Powell (1-for-4, 2 RBIs, homerun) then chipped in with an opposite field two-run homerun. Powell added to the scoring again on an RBI groundout in the third.

Starting pitcher Timothy Dobrik threw solid. He went 6.1 innings, striking out five. The Owls were able to string together some hits and scrap together runs. The score was 5-2 in the top of the fifth inning when Hyland (1-for-4, 2 RBIs, single) drove home a run on an RBI single to stretch the Cyclones' lead to four. However, Oakton came back and tied the game up in the seventh.

Righty Brett Smith was brought in for relief and shut down the Owl offense with five strikeouts. Moran led off in the bottom of the 10th with a double, and Esparza was intentionally walked. A pickoff attempt at second base went into centerfield and Moran advanced to third. Hyland hit a sac fly to give his team the win.
