Moraine Valley student-athletes not only demonstrated their athletic skills, but also their intelligence in the classroom this past year. Among nearly 60,000 student-athletes who compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), 24 Moraine Valley student-athletes were recognized with the 2019-20 Academic Student-Athlete Award and four teams earned Academic Team of the Year.

Cyclone athletes have brains and brawn as 68 earned Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference academic awards following the 2019-20 academic year. Two Cyclones also earned the esteemed Dick Durrant Award for high GPAs.
The hardest part about playing sports at Moraine Valley is that student-athletes only get two years to compete here before moving on. Some players will end their athletic careers after Moraine Valley while others will continue. This past spring saw athletes unable to play due to COVID-19, giving them additional eligibility to compete in 2021. Whatever they decide, the Cyclones have nearly 40 student-athletes moving on, and to that we say, congratulations! A few graduates have some things to say about their time as a Cyclone.
All Cyclone student-athletes have to talk with Athletics academic advisor, Agnes Dziemian, who has been at the college since 2015. For the last few years, she has not only worked with the students academically but also supported any Cyclone sporting event she could attend. Get to know Agnes.
Moraine Valley is hosting the NJCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Basketball District Championships on March 7. All games will take place in the Cyclone Center in Building H on campus.
For the third annual Moraine Valley Athletics Hall of Fame ceremony, the college saw a dedicated baseball coach, two sibling soccer studs, a former professional football defensive end, passionate basketball player and record-breaking runner all inducted on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
Come fill the stands and cheer on the Cyclones as they face conference rival McHenry County College on Tuesday, Feb. 18. The women start at 5:15 p.m. while the nationally ranked men take the court at 7:15 p.m.

Among nearly 60,000 student-athletes who compete in the NJCAA, 21 Moraine Valley student-athletes were recognized with the 2018-19 Academic Student-Athlete Award and six teams earned Academic Team of the Year. Additionally, 43 students were named Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) All-Academic Athletes of the Year and 32 freshmen were named All-Conference Freshmen Academic Athletes of the Year.
The Moraine Valley community lost a long-time instructor and pioneer for women’s athletics at the college. Katherine “Kay” Schneegas passed away June 22 at the age of 84.
