Cyclones split at Rockford tournament

Cyclone volleyball opened the 2022 season at the Rockford tournament Aug. 19 and 20. Over two days, they went 2-2 against some fierce competition.

This tournament gave the Cyclones an opportunity to face colleges they normally wouldn't see during the regular season. They started out in a matchup with State College of Florida, Manatee- Sarasota, winning 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-13).

Brooklyn Condon- 27 digs, 9 kills, 6 aces
Jaelyn Donald- 16 kills
Kaila Butvilas- 13 kills, 3 blocks, 4 aces
Ava Theoharis- 18 digs

In the second game of the day, the Cyclones lost 4-1 (15-25, 15-25, 19-25, 25-16, 10-15) to Central Lakes College- Brainerd. Porada suffered a minor injury in the second set, which briefly rattled the rest of the team.

On Saturday, the Cyclones jumped out of the game with a quick 3-0 win over Spoon River 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-20).

In their final match of the tournament, the Cyclones held their own against nationally ranked Iowa Central Community College, but fell 3-1 (25-23, 13-25, 21-25, 24- 26).
